This meeting will decide the fate of sPower’s 500 MW solar project in Spotsylvania County. The Board will be voting on 3 special use permits that would allow sPower to build the project - which would be the largest solar farm on the East Coast. The project represents a $615 million investment and is expected to generate 700-800 jobs during construction as well as 25-30 permanent jobs; however, some local residents are concerned about the project’s large size as well as its proximity to homes. Greenbound members David Stimson, Gabe Gordon-Harper, and Nick Stoner will be attending the meeting and we encourage anyone who wants to show their support for the project to also come along. It is expected to be a contentious meeting, with passionate groups of people on both sides of the aisle. There will be several carpool options from the Richmond area and it is NOT required that you stay the whole time, you can show up late and leave when you please. Please reach out to David Stimson if you’d like to attend or have any questions (847-302-4126).
